General Bequia Information |
|
 |
|
Bequia primarily draws the "yachting crowd".
This is because the island is small and there isn't any large resorts.
You won't find any Marriotts or Westins in Bequia. Bequia is
also hard to reach if you aren't sailing in on a bareboat or yacht.
Because of its size and remote location, we feel that Bequia is a
perfect place to relax in the Caribbean. It is special BECAUSE it
is small and hard to get to.

We decided to fly into St. Vincent and then take one of the ferries
over to Bequia. This turned out to be a good way to go.
After arriving in St. Vincent, we took a taxi to the "ferry dock" in
Kingstown. (This costs us about $10 USD) We then boarded the
Admiral II Ferry over to Bequia. The fare was only $6 USD.
The ferry ride from St. Vincent to Bequia takes about 60 minutes.
Here is a
link to the ferry schedule.

Once on Bequia, we decided not to rent a car. We stayed in
Lower Bay which wasn't too far out of town. We rode taxis the
entire time we were on Bequia. They were plentiful and not too
expensive. Taxi fare from Port Elizabeth to Lower Bay was about $25
EC ($9 USD). We used Lancey's taxi service most of the week.
He was very nice and courteous. The cabs in Bequia are pick up
trucks with padded bench seats. We really thought these made the
trips fun. |

Since we had a kitchen, we made some trips into town for groceries.
The grocery stores in Bequia are very small. Oftentimes you may
have to hit more than one to find the wanted items. The island
also had plenty of ATM machines downtown which made for easy currency
conversion. |
