Maui, Hawaii

north maui mountains

We spent five days on the beautiful island of Maui. We visited just after the horrible "911" tragedy so we secured great rates and the island was empty.

Lahaina Shores

The Lahaina Shores is one of our favorite places to stay on Maui. The condo is located directly on the beach. If you get an ocean side studio you will be graced with this view every night.

The Lahaina Shores is located about 1/4 mile from downtown Lahaina so it is an easy walk into town. We just love booking the ocean view studios. The balconies are wonderful.

The Lahaina Shores is not a fancy place. The pool is small and modest. The property does not have a restaurant, bar, or room service.

But you are only a short walk from town which has loads of good food and fun.

This is a morning view from the balcony. The island of Lanai is in the background.

Maui Beaches & Snorkeling

Honoloa Bay

Honoloa Bay is a great place to snorkel! Swim to the left and out toward the open water. At first you will see only rocks, but keep kicking. You'll soon be rewarded with a beautiful coral reef.

Maui Prince

Maui Prince Beach is also another great place to snorkel. You'll oftentimes see turtles in this area.

La Perouse Bay

La Perouse Bay was VERY windy. Supposed to be a great snorkeling locale but the water seemed very rough.

This secret beach is where we renewed our vows a few years back. It is sometimes referred to as "secret beach". It is located just north of Makena in a private residential area.

Things to Do on Maui

One of our favorite restaurant on Maui is Kimo's in Lahaina. Great food, beautiful beachfront location, and great Mai Tais.

There are some little known Petroglyphs near mile marker 14. You have to follow a dirt road for about a 1/2 mile, but you are rewarded with some real Petroglyphs.

swap meet

Another favorite pastime on Maui is attending the Maui Swap Meet in Kahalui. There is only a $.50 entry fee, and there is usually lots of really cool stuff at very affordable prices.

Local schools and organizations are always running local entertainment shows. These are a real treat to watch.

maui frogman

We took the "Frogman" years ago out to Molikini to scuba dive. This year we attended a time share, which I we will NEVER to again, and received a free afternoon snorkel on the Frogman.

The Frogman took us to a reef that was out from Mile Marker 14. The snorkeling was OK, but since it was the afternoon it was a little windy. If you want good snorkeling on Maui, then always take the early trip.
