Oahu is the most populated of the Hawaiian islands. The city and county of Honolulu contains approximately 850,000 residents.
We only stayed on Oahu for three short days. Our advice is to rent a car and drive around to the "other side" of the island. Oahu is a beautiful place once you leave the hustle and bustle of Honolulu. We also enjoyed driving up to the north shore area.
Waikiki is the world famous beach located near the big city of Honolulu.
It is usually full of people, but it is still a very scenic beach.
We stayed at an Aston hotel near the Ali canal. The hotel was nice enough.
The view was awesome. Waikiki has numerous "high rise" hotels. It gives the city a very cosmopolitan feel.
Sunset from our balcony.
Outside Waikiki
About 30 minutes from Waikiki is a little beach called Lanikai. (Near the town of Kailua.)
As you can see, it is a very, very beautiful beach.
It is a nice place to spend the day!
Kahala Beach--In front of the Kahala Mandrin Oriental Hotel.
This is a great hotel beach that is accessible from the Kahala Beach parking lot. It is only about 5 minutes from Waikiki.
Snorkeling Oahu
We did most of our snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, which is located a few miles outside of Waikiki. The snorkeling here was still quite good even though this is probably the most popular snorkel spot on the island. The bay is beautiful.
We also snorkeled a place called Shark's Cove. It is located on the north shore. Very nice protected snorkeling. Don't worry about the name....
