Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta sits on the Bay of Banderas in Jalisco, Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is a great "tourist" town but it retains its charm as "authentic". Although you will see areas that house large mega resorts, the downtown Puerto Vallarta area maintains the old world Mexican charm.
Puerto Vallarta also has great "day trips" to such places as Mismaloya and Punta Mita. |
Sheraton Bougainvilleas
View from our room at the Sheraton. The view and facility was nice, but the room was VERY BASIC. (see below)
We would NOT recommend the Sheraton. There are much better resorts in the same price level. |

The beds were as hard as a rock.
Bad service, no ice, the list goes on . . . |
Las Caletas Day Trip
Caletas by Day is a trip you can book with Vallarta Adventures. It makes for a VERY relaxing day. You can snorkel, kayak, hike, or lounge around. There is plenty of space so you never feel crowded. It is a great way to get away from it all.
The trip includes all you can eat and drink and costs about $60. |

Spending a day at Caletas is a great way to spend the day . . |
Jorge shows Carroll how to mold clay This was just one of the activities offered. |

One of many peaceful moments at Las Caletas.
Eating and drinking is included during the day. |
Taking shots at the bar. The tequila was actually pretty decent... I think...
Actually we don't remember... |

The Dolphin Adventure
Vallarta Adventures offers a "swim with the dolphins" tour that is fantastic. You get 45 minutes "swim time" with two bottlenose dolphins.
The dolphins are very gentle and everyone that I talked to absolutely LOVED the event.
Carroll said it was a "dream come true" |

Kissed by a couple of dolphins (video capture) |

Carroll is a happy camper (video capture) |
Everyone in the program had the ability to swim with and learn about the dolphins. |

General Information
Downtown
The famous seahorse statue on the Malecon.
Puerto Vallarta has many "art sculptures" in and around the town that make it visually appealing. |

The arches on the Malecon |
Carroll on the "swinging bridge" over the River Caule. The shops along the river provide nice "haggle shopping" |

Beautiful sunsets are an everyday occurrence. |
Eating in Puerto Vallarta |

Dinner at Oscar's gave us quite a view. The atmosphere was great, but the food was not fantastic Oscar's is located by the river. |

Cheeseburger in Paradise (now closed)
There is even a "Cheeseburger in Paradise" in Puerto Vallarta. Carroll says "the cheeseburgers taste the same as they do in Maui". |

Senor Frogs
Carroll has lunch with a green friend at Senor Frogs. At Senor Frogs, the guacamole is made fresh at your table. It was MUY BUENO! |
Chez Elenea
One of our favorite places was Chez Elenea. |

Mismaloya
Mismaloya Bay is breathtaking. Great beach, great scenery and great Palapas. When we return to Puerto Vallarta, we plan on staying in Mismaloya.
The hotel looks wonderful, the scenery breathtaking, and it is close to town.
($9 taxi ride) |

There are numerous fishing boats docked along the river that make daily fishing runs. |
Los Arcos in the distance |

Carroll haggles with a local over the price of a dress. The going rate is 100 pesos! ($10) |
Enjoying a cerveza from John Huston's restaurant. What a view!!!!
This restaurant is part of the original "Night of the Iguana" set. |
